Double Chin Liposuction
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that uses a suction technique to PERMANENTLY remove unwanted fat from specific areas of the body – in this case, around your chin and neck. Liposuction can also help to contour the area. It’s important to note that liposuction, also known as suction assisted lipectomy, is not considered a weight-loss method or alternative. Double Chin Liposuction at THE FACE JAB uses a minimal pain, awake technique called tumescent liposuction. This method allows quick recovery so that patients don’t have to pay for a general anaesthetic and can be done in clinic, allowing you to return to your busy life. Neck liposuction generally has two different techniques that can be used: the traditional method and the laser technique. The method used will depend on the requirements and aesthetic goals of the patient we can walk you through the options when you book a consultation. However, to remove fat from the neck area, a small incision will be made for a cannula to be fed through into the treatment area to remove excess fat in a gentle suction process – hence the name liposuction.
WHY DO NECK CONTOURING?If you’ve been on a weight loss journey and there’s still some stubborn fat around your neck and chin cause what is commonly referred to as a ‘double chin’, neck contouring can help redefine your features. Even without making changes to your face, reducing the fat and shaping your neck and chin can drastically change your appearance and improve your confidence by making you look younger and as though you’ve lost weight (as some patients likely have). Neck contouring can also restore balance to your facial features with a more defined jawline that frames your face.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Before the procedure: There are many things to consider before going you are able to get neck liposuction. Our doctor will go through a thorough history and physical examination. This will help determine your skin elasticity. You will be able to discuss your aesthetic goals so we can advise on realistic aesthetic outcomes. It is also advised that you report any medications you are currently taking, previous surgeries, current and past illnesses and allergies as they may interfere with the surgery and healing process.
During the procedure: To remove fat from this area, 4-5 small incisions of 3-4mm are made for a cannula to be fed through into the treatment area, first to pump anaesthetic in, and then to remove excess fat in a gentle suction process.
After the procedure: Expect some but very mild or minimal pain, swelling and bruising following the procedure. Antibiotics will be prescribed to reduce infection risk so please take them as prescribed and inform the doctor of any antibiotic allergies. Opioid pain killers will be prescribed to help control the pain though it is the experience of MOST of our patients that they end up taking less tha 30% of the painkillers prescribed due to how well tolerated the tumescent technique is in this area. Often touted as a weekend procedure, patients are able to return to work after 3 full days of a compression garment followed by wearing the compression garment at home for another 11 days when not at work. Those lucky enough to work from home or take a full week off are encouraged to wear the bandage for 7 full days, taking it off here and there for comfort. Patients often notice a very significant result after the procedure and the go on to notice further skin tightening and retraction of the double chin area over the coming months with the final resting result taking shape at 3months to a year after the procedure.
